The nation’s oldest residential street, Elfreth’s Alley has been inhabited since 1702. Over the last 3 centuries, more than 3,000 people have lived on this small street in Old City, Philadelphia. Originally built on land owned by blacksmiths John Gilbert and Arthur Wells, today 32 houses built between 1728 and 1836 make up the alley.
